Tuesday March 27

6:00 PM  –  8:00 PM

See Washington as it was more than 200 years ago, through the eyes and images of history painter and Tudor Place Artist in Residence Peter Waddell.  He will discuss his monumental work in progress – a pair of paintings depicting the Washington of Peter (“Pierre”) L’Enfant – and the extensive research behind them. The first of these landscapes, “The Vision of Pierre L’Enfant,” depicts a bird's eye view of L’Enfant’s grand plan for the Capital City, set against the landscape of 1791. Its companion, “The Village Monumental,” from the same vantage point, shows the far humbler city realized by the time of L’Enfant's death, in 1825.
